Hello my name is leila kassem i’m a student pharmacist at the ut tyler fish college of pharmacy um and today i’m going to be going over some of the key counseling points of a drug called clonazepam clonazepam is a benzodiazepine and it’s mainly used to treat seizures and panic disorder it does have other uses if you have any questions about what these other uses
Are feel free to ask your doctor or pharmacist you want to take clonazepam by mouth with a glass of water one possible side effect of clonazepam is it can make your stomach hurt if this happens try taking it with food or a glass of milk and see if that eases the stomach upset it’s also important to take this medication as directed on the prescription label
By your doctor because depending on what it’s used for it can be taken at different times of the day or different doses it’s important to make note of that instruction and take it at regular intervals every day for example if you’re prescribed to take it once a day maybe you can take it at noon with your lunch and try to stick to that time daily do not take it
More often than directed if you think you’ve taken more often than directed or maybe doubled up or anything like that be sure to contact poison control or you need to go to the emergency department and for the national poison control number you can see the comment section in this video also do not stop taking the medication unless you speak to your doctor about
It first so what if you miss a dose if you happen to miss a dose try to take it as soon as possible for example if we’re going back to the um noon dose say you forgot to take it at noon try to take it like at 12 30 possibly at one just as soon as you can if it’s almost time for the next dose then just skip that one and go ahead and take your next dose you’re
Not going to want to take double doses or extra doses um there is a maximum daily dose but depending on what you’re using the medication for that can differ so if you have any questions about this you can ask your doctor or your pharmacist and they’ll be able to give you that maximum dose what are some possible side effects you can get with clonazepam one very
Important side effect to keep note of is breathing problems if you experience any trouble breathing make sure to let your doctor know right away if it’s out of their regular business hours and the breathing trouble is severe you need to go to the emergency department right away dizziness and tiredness are some common side effects and these don’t require immediate
Medical attention however if they are bothering you and if they’re going on for a long time for several weeks you can let your doctor know when they might need to adjust the dose on your medication you also need to be careful when driving or doing any activity that requires you to be alert until you know how this medication is going to affect you what should you
Tell your doctor before taking this medication it’s important to let them know if you’re having any lung or breathing disease if you have suicidal thoughts if you’re pregnant or trying to get pregnant or if you are currently breastfeeding so where should you store your medication it’s very very important to keep this medication out of reach of children pets and
